The 2017 Hospice Summit is a perfect framework for kicking off innovative thinking that can have significant influence on bedside care by combining a Leadership Intensive with an Interdisciplinary Clinical Team Intensive.

Day One -  Leadership Day

We will address challenges in today's healthcare arena with special emphasis on ways hospice can be integrated into the post-acute space and advanced illness management models.

The morning begins with Dr. William A. Hazel Jr., Secretary of DHSS offering the keynote address. Later there will be an expert panel discussion on hot topics including post-acute space, advanced illness management, Medicaid futures, regulatory and legislative issues, followed by our Annual Membership Meeting.

After lunch Phyllis Whitehead, PhD, APRN/CNS, RN-BC, speaks to us about leadership in times of moral distress.  Day One concludes with Gary Gardia  MEd, MSW, LCSW engaging leaders by focusing on their role in developing a workplace in which clinicians are supported and energized in doing their best work.

Day Two - Clinical Day

This will be a truly interdisciplinary learning experience in which new skills will be taught and opportunities for application of these skills will be engaged.

Gary Gardia MEd, MSW, LCSW will include evidence-based theoretical frameworks as well as techniques that can be applied to specific dynamics often encountered in hospice care. Phyllis Whitehead, PhD, APRN/CNS, RN-BC speaks about moral resiliency in the workplace. Myra Lovvorn RN. MSN, FNP-BC, AHN-BC and Brenda Clarkson RN will round out the day by exploring ways in which hospice clinicians can sustain themselves in the challenging arena in which they have chosen to practice, The whole day will enable hospice clinicians to acquire skills and knowledge that are designed to have a significant impact on their clinical practice. Clinicians will leave feeling energized and validated for their contribution to excellence in end-of-life-care.
